With only 2 weeks left until 30th May for the world cup to begin Indian squad has already been announced by the BCCI and looks quite balanced and a better one if compared with the squad of 2011 world cup as told by Head Coach Ravi Shastri. Indian team is travelling to England with 3 seamers with likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneswar Kumar and Mohammed Shami and not with 4 seamers.
Meanwhile 4 other seamer will accompany the Squad in form of Navdeep Saini,Avesh Khan, khaleel Ahmed and Deepak Chahar to England which will prove to be a good practice as backup for the front line bowlers and also for their personal experience as well. It will be an opportunity for them to adapt and understand those English conditions well.
England conditions :-
Well it’s obvious that when you hear about bowling in England the first thing going to strike you is the swing and bounce. But it is not the same anymore!!
In a recent India A tour to England it was a high scoring arena and totally different from the kind of image you tend to get a decade or 2 ago. The par score has know raised up-to 300 or 320 odd runs which use to be around 270-280 runs. 300+ is just being chased down so easily that it looks as if batsmen will be on their dream run playing in England.
Hardik- the 4th seamer ?
Though Hardik Pandya is a good enough bowler who has the ability to get you wickets at any point of time in the innings ,be it middle or at the start, he has not shown enough calmness and consistency with his bowling. He is the most likely guy to be around to bowl as a 4th seamer for India if required. He cannot be called “The 4th seamer” because it is very difficult for him to stick to a particular area with the ball and trouble the batsmen which the front line Indian seamers like bhuvneswar, Shami and Bumrah always do. Yes! His skill is definitely appreciable because he provides a balance in the Playing XI with ability to strike the ball with a strike rate of 180-200 and bowl 4-5 overs with speeds of 140+ which is a good sign. Also Vijay Shankar Can be another option who can bowl a spell of 10 overs combined with Hardik pandya if needed.
India definitely have got lot of options for a 4th Seamer and the most likely is Navdeep Saini based on the performance in the shortest format of the game where batsmen take on the game and dominate the bowlers so if he can give these kind of performances then he will be the key to success for bowlers in the longer format as well.
